How the Boundary Commission proposals affect Stockport

by Lib Dem team on 12 September, 2011

The Boundary Commission has published its initial proposals for how the English parliamentary constituencies should change.

In our area they propose:

  • Cheadle constituency (which we’re in here) gains the ward of Davenport & Cale Green, but loses Stepping Hill ward (which covers parts of Davenport, Great Moor, Heavily and Hazel Grove).
  • Hazel Grove constituency gains Stepping Hill ward and also Poynton, which is in East Cheshire, but loses Bredbury & Woodley to Denton.
  • Stockport ward gains Reddish North & Reddish South, but loses Davenport & Cale Green

Bear in mind that these are initial proposals, and there follows consultation which the political parties and members of public can take part in.  The final proposals might be completely different.

These only affect the parliamentary seats, they have no effect at all on the local council or the council seats.

Thanks for this – nice to see somebody sum these changes up in plain English.

I also think you should be commended for this blog – you could definitely teach your Cheadle Hulme colleagues (Hunter, Porgess, Somekh etc) a thing or two about ‘keeping in touch’ with the public at large!

Thank you for the confirmation which I had already managed to glean from a newspaper report – however, this was much simpler to read.

Living in Woodley it seems that unless these proposals are changed there will be no incentive to vote whatsoever, as we will be forever in a Labour heartland.

Hoping those ‘turkeys’ will vote for christmas !
Now, how about you councillors ? You could do the same – just ask Oldhams.
