Last night at Stockport Full Council we had a presentation on how the town is preparing for the Olympics.

Stockport has an impressive number of top athletes, including Kerry-Ann Payne – the first Brit to qualify for London 2012 and many others – we’ll be cheering them on and hope for their success.

We’re also hoping that our impressive sports facilities locally will be used for training by other national teams – several are being spoken to and where we’ve performed this role for other competitions in recent years the visitors have always been impressed.

And we want the Olympics to inspire people in Stockport to try something new, and strive to achieve more, whether it’s in sport or elsewhere.
