Film studio plan for BAE Woodford site

by Lib Dem team on 13 October, 2011

BAE has agreed to sell the Woodford site to a buyer (who’s name has not been made public) with a view to transforming at least part of the site into a film studio.

As the MEN is reporting:

Screen agency Vision + Media has identified the site as a potential film set and the organisation this week published a newsletter, which said: “The site offers huge production build facilities, office accommodation, vast expanse of hard standing and green space for technical parking plus many individual annex buildings for storage, construction and prop houses. Full phase power & water facilities are present throughout the site.”

Edited to add: the buyer has now been revealed as Jo Bamford, heir to JCB.

  1. I hope this comes to pass, as I am a freelance sculptor
who has worked in effects studios in London. To have some studios on a par with Pinewood in the North of England can only make a great deal of sense, and will create many jobs
for the wealth of talent up here. It would also be easy on local freelancers to not have the expense of travelling and staying in hotels in the South in the instance of having to working away.

i agree with the previous post, this facility would create jobs and could mushroom to make the area another Pinewood – James Bond at Woodford, you could only hope

What a great idea – the employment opportunities would seem endless particularly maybe apprenticeships with regard to set building both electrical and woodworking!

From a personal point of view, my daughter is a Make-up artist who is struggling to get into the TV/Film business – so these new studios could be the breakthrough she needs.

    Cheers,

    Kath

Film Studio sounds positive but I understand that a considerable area will be given to a housing estate. More traffic (Poynton roads are already like treacle and ready to clog permanently), more pollution and less green space.
