What sort of development should be allowed around Stockport – have your say

by Lib Dem team on 19 October, 2011

Stockport Council is currently consulting on something called the “allocations policy”.  That’s a bit of jargon for looking at different bits of land across the Borough and saying what – if anything – we think should be built there.

For example, we might think one plot of land would be suitable for housing, whilst another wouldn’t be, but would be ideal for leisure or retail.

The Council’s come up with its views on what should go where and now we want you to have your say.

Go to the Council website and put in your views – closing date for submissions is 28th November 2011.

  1. David Johnson says:

Fixed land area, insufficient open/leisure/wild life/green spaces means that there are no spaces for development – except in recovering some existing unused industrial sites. In Stockport area we also suffer from excessive existing atmospheric and noise pollution effect on health. No more development – either industrial or housing – should be done, only returning space to human (particularly youngsters) use.

Thank you David. Gatley Carrs Conservation Group have been concerned for many months about the government’s latest desire which is to reduce planning documentation from over 1,000 pages to 52. This means that if developers show that they have the funds available and the ability to build then it will be made much easier for green spaces to be developed.

Iain will say that our green spaces are safe but members of the Green Space Forum in Stockport are far from convinced. As you so rightly say we have excessive atmospheric and pollution already. We don’t need any more.
