Your Lib Dem team for Cheadle West & Gatley Learn more

Following consultation with residents, the Lib Dem team have asked the Council to substantially change proposals for improvements to Gatley Green.
We’re very glad that residents and businesses have been properly consulted, and that their views are being taken into account.
Proposals for the road outside the Prince of Wales to be made one way have been scrapped, as have proposals to block off the small section of road separating the war memorial from the rest of Gatley Green. The idea to move parking to the house side of Gatley Green has also been knocked on the head.
Other improvements to the junction of Gatley Green and Church Road by Tesco, to the war memorial area and to the pavements around the Green and over by the Co-op stay in the plan, with some modifications.
Residents will be consulted again on revised proposals, and we hope the agreed scheme will be implemented later in 2012.

What a waste of time and MONEY !
To sum up your summary – NO CHANGE !
I’m afraid your summary is mistaken, Robert. There are changes being proposed and we’re working to make sure they’re the right changes.
Agree with RT. But, could those ugly and crumbling concrete posts not be uprooted ? not to be replaced – that requires more money and future maintenance – instead, plant where necessary some more beech hedging – much more pleasing to the eye.
Mistake was not having a group meeting of residents/businesses prior to work being started on the draft ideas. That way, the daily life of the ‘Green’ would have been understood better. Positive side is the fact that the Council is providing money to retain/enhance our village green instead of the scant disregard for the Conservation Areas of Gatley (as in the past). Hopefully the amended set of plans/ideas will receive more approval and they can move forward with the work. We can then turn our attention to pushing for the blighted Tatton building to be redeveloped (frontage retained) and incorporate something we can all use again. Then and only then can we start to feel proud of our village – subject to no more take-aways being allowed !!!!!
PS. Any news on the Clock Tower revamp?
Hi Geoff,
No mistake has been made, I would say. Council officers have come up with an initial idea, residents and businesses have had their say and revised plans will be consulted on. That’s a good way to do things and, if money is the issue, certainly no more expensive than any alternatives.
Rest assured that we continue to push for the Tatton to be redeveloped – we aren’t waiting for any other work to complete for that one. The key there is for the developer to find a scheme which both works for them and is acceptable to local residents.
Is there any reason why Tesco’s car parking facility has no lighting, or has Stockport council waved health and safety legislation, Tesco’s are in contravention.
Vehicles are double, sometimes triple parking at the front of the store, the double yellows need extending the full length of the store ASAP.
Hi Andy,
Sorting out the parking in front of Tescos is something the proposals aim to do (not necessarily ban it, but improving the layout so it doesn’t cause a problem).
I don’t know about the lighting – I’ve parked in that car park at night a number of times and never thought it was too dark. Have to be honest that I’m not familiar with the Health & Safety legislation you refer to – if you can give me more details I’ll certainly chase it up.
Without getting into the complexities of health and safety legislation, basically lighting should be fit for purpose, where public and vehicles are mixing together the lighting needs to be superior to street lighting.
Tesco are aware of their responsibilities because they have erected lighting in the car park but they are not being turned on, it needs to be addressed.
