Gatley Carrs: 125 trees planted in 90 minutes

by Lib Dem team on 11 December, 2011

Thanks to the Gatley Carrs Conservation Group, local Scouts and Cubs and the Stockport Council Parks Department, 125 trees were planted in the nature reserve in just an hour and a half. Keith Holloway and I went along to help too.

The trees were received free from the Woodland Trust to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year (more information here).

Braving the rain, a selection of young trees were planted in the bottom field near the car park. Then a line of hedge trees were planted near the wildflower meadow, which we hope will grow into a hedge to protect a new orchard planned for 2012.

  1. Paula Isherwood says:

Gatley carrs Conservation Group are very grateful for the help of the scouts, cubs, beavers and their families, together with members of the group who, as Iain has point out, braved the persistent rain on the 11th to plant saplings donated by the Woodland Trust, with stakes and protection from viridor-credits. Their effort was much appreciated and we hope that the children have pleasure in the years to come watching their saplings grow. As Iain states the saplings were planted in an hour and a half which was because of all the help which was given by the 40 plus volunteers.
