We’ve been told that the planning application to expand the Cheadle Mosque in Heald Green has been withdrawn by the applicants.
A new application can always been submitted at a future date but this one is no more. Concerns had been raised by residents about the impact on parking and development in the greenbelt. The Cheadle Muslim Association had worked hard to meet residents, listen to and address concerns but decided to withdraw the application at this stage.

A victory for the xenophobes methinks.
Agreed John.
Yippppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Common sense prevailed
nothing common about sense, if it was there would be more of it Lesley
and
yes, I agree John and Phil
This was nothing to do with xenophobia and everything to do with common sense. The issues were both clearly stated and self evident. Parking on a blind bend site? Almost too obvious to contest. And really why should we even consider giving up any green belt?
Lets be clear, if we were in an Islamic country, chances are we wouldn’t be allowed a church at all. These issues are given misleading titles like “xenophobia” and “racist” because some of us have the temerity to voice our opinions. The British tendency to be a soft touch means too often, that tendency is exploited. In this case as Lesley says, common sense HAS prevailed but not for any racist reasons.
This application has been withdrawn for reasons know only to the applicant. They may have involved common sense, they may not. Those who objected have nothing to object to. A similar application can be made at any time. This is the planning process at work. Where is the victory? Why the triumphalism?
The only reason I objected was that the site would be made larger from 250 people to 500 with no extra parking. At certain times the surrounding road and junction is covered in parked cars. Even on grass verges, meaning the site can already not cope with the amount of people using it. Once the airport link road is completed this junction will only get busier. If they resubmit plans with ample parking, I will have no objection.
I understand that the applicant claimed to have distributed leaflets to the local population and informed the council to this effect while in fact they were not distributed.
Maybe that’s the reason for withdrawal of the application.
Its incorrect to say those who objected had nothing to object to (is this a socialist false consciousness mindset?) – the sheer scale of the proposal , green belt and road access/location are all perfectly legitimate points for people to make.
I thought we had moved on from anyone making comments where immigration, or Islam were concerned being branded racist?
John you state ‘A victory for the xenophobes methinks.’
I doubt that this is the case, but even if it was, big deal, do people not have a right to an opinion?
Just because you may disagree with it, does not mean that an opinion should carry less weight
LesL – i couldn’t have put it better.
I don’t apologise for calling it xenophobic, I just don’t think there would have been the hysterical reaction were it not a mosque involved. I’m a liberal, and that’s my opinion.
Pray at home.
…..I Do.
John E, your reaction IS hysterical, it was nothing to do with the fact it was a mosque; everything to do with safety and green space. One reason these things are blown up by certain people Into otherwise straightforward planning g applications.
Frederick, I said that objectors had nothing to object to as the application had been withdrawn.
What is the betting Ellis, Johnson and sajeel do not live next to this proposed monstrosity ? !
How much do you wanna bet Robert ?
I would like to ask where all the councillors were when this was first posted to the council.
No support was seen or heard, from councillors on a subject of road safety and nothing else for more than 4 years at that junction, also never a policeman in sight on Friday 1:00pm
Maybe scared to lose votes at election time ?
very sad you are Robert, showing your true colours now, don’t want to get into this debate, end of!!!
Saj – are you denying your employment – in one of our many restaurants / take aways ? !
Which begs the question – do you not already dominate our local culture ? !
So sad that this vehicle for comment on issues raised by a councillor should be hijacked to vent racism. Shameful.
I agree with the parking issues etc etc but I love the attitude from these small minded men who have commented above! Keeps me entertained 😉
No point arguing.
I love racists, check out EDL, Britain first, BNP etc losers on youtube – what a bunch of funny small minded people…
There are also other issues with Cheadle Mosque.
For example it was due to host the Qibla Tour, with speakers from Saudi Arabia, last December.

It is not clear to me if this went ahead, but one of the speakers, Adel al-Kelbani, was unable to enter the UK having been banned by Home Secretary Theresa May:

Has the mosque commented on that?
