Culvert problems on Broadway, Cheadle

by Lib Dem team on 18 August, 2010

Pam’s been down to Broadway following concern from residents after the flooding last Thursday.  It sounds like there’s an issue with the culvert that runs down Wilmslow Road past Broadway and it’s getting worse.

We’re very keen to get this sorted.  The grids are being cleared on Broadway as I write and Pam and I have been, and will continue to be, in touch with Solutions SK and the Council to ensure whatever work needs to be done, is done.

Last night at Cheadle Area Committee we spent some time discussing similar issues relating to a culvert along Ladybridge Road in Cheadle Hulme, which has been an issue for several years and resulting in disagreements between the council and United Utilities as to who’s responsible.  We’re keen to get that one resolved and make sure Broadway gets sorted out a lot quicker.

I am glad that Broadway residents are having their issues with grids and culvert sorted. Nearly a year ago residents on and near Schools Hill had a meeting where the issue of grids was discussed. To my knowledge these have not been cleared and we still get flooding at the bottom of the Hill on the junction with Wilmslow Rd. Only now are yellow lines being painted at the end of Daylesford. While the requested repainting of white lines at the Turnfield Rd/Schools Hill junction seems to have been translated quite some time ago into repainting the give way lines only. Could these matters also be looked at?

Alf – After that meeting a lot of work was done on the junction of Schools Hill and Wilmslow Road to improve the flooding – not perfect but my perception is that it’s improved a lot.

You’re right about the lines by Turnfield – I was told they’d all be done and only the give way lines were – still working on that one.

An update on this – we think both this problem and the Schools Hill issue had a common origin, which is now being resolved. Debris has been cleared downstream and a plan is moving forwards to prevent the same issue cropping up again.
