Following requests by residents and the Council looking to see if it meets the requirements, we’re considering a proposal to have permit parking on Hall Street , Ernest Street and Crescent Road, plus double yellow lines at the junction of Hall Street and Brook Road.
You can see the plans from page 137 of the Cheadle Area Committee minutes (see below).
In summary, the proposals are
This is an issue Pam and I have been working with residents on for some time and we’re very glad to see it finally come before the committee. The aim is to get the balance right between helping residents park near their own houses and not removing all on-street parking for others (who would, of course, simply park elsewhere).

Iain. i hope to be attending tuesdays CAC meeting. can you quickly explain the logic behind only offering permit parking in front of houses themselves? thanks
Hi David.
I haven’t devised the plan myself and I wouldn’t want to put words into officers’ mouths – we can ask on Tuesday.
However, if I were devising a scheme, I’d be aware of the risk of creating an even worse problem elsewhere by pushing cars around, so I’d want to get the balance right between on the one hand ensuring residents could park near their houses and on the other hand not preventing other people from parking on a public road.
If people want to park near their property, they should live in a property with parking facilities or take their chance and not expect special treatment.
Hi I have been asked to do some work at 25 Ernest Street Cheadle and would like a small 4cu yard skip outside for 2 days, also I will need to park my van for 2 days the new resident only has 1 permit no visitors permit, can you advise where I can purchase a permit for the above from please .
Regards Neil
Hi Neil – skip permits are here: https://www.stockport.gov.uk/permits-and-licences/skip-permits
The resident you’re working for should be able to get daily visitors permits from the council.
