Children and Young People’s Scrutiny is one of Stockport’s Scrutiny committees, keeping an eye on what the Council and the various other agencies are up to and, hopefully, spot issues and make helpful suggestions to improve things.
The latest meeting was last night. All the meetings are open to the public and all are at the Town Hall, with the next one being 20th October.
Yesterday we discussed:
- The report from the Children’s Trust for Q1 2010/11 (April-June this year), including the health of young people, safety, care placements, injuries, educational achievements, youth offending and economic wellbeing.
- Budget reports (capital and revenue) relating to education and young people in Stockport.
- A report into the prevention of childhood accidents
- The proposal to amalgamate St Joseph’s RC Infant and Junior schools in Reddish – a proposal supported by the schools’ governors, parents and the Salford Diocese.
- A national consultation on schools funding – in particular, how the pupil premium should work. This is an additional £2.5 billion for disadvantaged children, but there are questions like how you define who’s disadvantaged (we supported the idea that it should be anyone who’s had free schools meals either now or at any time in the last few years).
- The annual report of the local safeguarding children board, which brings together various people and agencies involved in keeping our children safe.
You can find the agenda for the meeting (219 pages including all the reports I’ve mentioned) here. You can also find agendas for every other September 2010 council meeting in the same place.
