At 7.10am today (Friday 24th Sept) one of the trees in the patch of land next to the Horse & Farrier pub in Gatley crashed across Old Hall Road, blocking it.
There looks to have been damage to one car and some (hopefully minor) damage to the buildings opposite. No-one appears to have been injured.
Workmen from the Council were quickly on the scene and clearing away the tree, which will probably take most of the day. Obviously anyone wanting to enter or leave the estate by car should use Cambridge Road. It is possible to walk around the tree and get past safely.

Hi Iain,
I would love a copy of the lower photo for the history if that’s possible please.

No problem Martin, I’ll email you over the full sized photo.
As all cars had to use Cambridge Road it highlighted, even more, the problems caused by parking by the railway station. As there were queues exiting Cambridge Rd it was difficult to get off Gatley Rd onto Cambridge because in parts the road is not wide enough to take parking on both sides and allow traffic to flow. This is a daily problem.
My main concern with this natural accident is that if it’s an act of god and therefore an insurence might be liable what about those who are athiest, does this not mean the claim would be void, but what does come to mind is that this might come under discrimination for those who have no belief but still want to claim, but the best thing is that it did not land on the pub as this would have been horrific, but I do feel that the tree should have been left there for ecological purposes for the local inhabitants, Gatley has not seen this much adventure since the signing of the Magna Carta and feel there should be a commemorative plaque for this momentous event paid for by the local councillors, to all the inhabitants of Gatley CARPE DIEM!!!
