The police always attend our Cheadle Area Committee meetings to tell us what’s going on and answer questions. They’re usually able to find time to speak privately to anyone attending this public meeting who’s got an issue they’d prefer not to raise openly.
Yesterday, with Inspector Gilbertson away, we had Sargeant Darren Spurgeon along with PCs Mark Shaw and Bob Gallagher from Gatley, PC Gibbs from Cheadle and PC John Bolton from Heald Green.
- Anti-social behaviour is down across Stockport, and down substantially in our area (a 57% drop in Gatley & 35% down in Cheadle for example). Where we do still have problems (recently on Brook Street and around Barnes Hospital in Cheadle, for example) those are receiving attention.
- On that issue at Barnes Hospital and on Brook Road, four individuals have received harrassment warnings, with further action to be taken if needed.
- A young man responsible for a large number of bicycle thefts around Cheadle has been banned from the village and from riding bicycles, allowing the police to arrest him on sight if he breaks these conditions.
- In Heald Green a large operation has been launched to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Finney Lane area, St Ann’s Road North and Cheadle Royal following problems over the weekend.
- Police have been making regular (friendly) visits to pubs around the area. The Pub Watch in Cheadle is going well and police are working on getting the Gatley pub watch going again.
- Burglaries are up a little in Gatley and down a little in Cheadle. Vehicle crime is unchanged in both. “Operation Slip” is targeting acquisitive crime such as burglary.
