Pam and I are pleased that the new parking regulations seem to be working reasonably well on Ashfield Road, Cheadle by the library (please let us know if you disagree – we can only go on what we see and what people tell us).
Double yellow lines down the east side seem to have stopped the problem of people parked up on the pavement, blocking it completely, and the ten new two-hour bays are well used.
However, there’s a section at the end that’s still unlimited parking – and we don’t think people have realised it so it’s not being well used. Go past the ten time-restricted bays and you’ll see you can park for as long as you like at the others.

Hi Iain,
This seems to be working at the library, but having walked through Cheadle this morning, I can report parking on yellow lines all along the high st., massey street, end of ashfield road, next to costa coffee, outside tescos, well, everywhere really! Cheadle is already somewhat of a bottleneck but is made worse by the illegal parking on the high street.
Many shop owners/restaurant owners seem to think it okay to park outside their premises, all day, everyday but I suppose I would do the same, if I knew I would get away with it – ie lack of parking wardens!
Cheers,
Kath
This could be “sorted” very quickly. A few tickets issued to regular offenders & the word would go round like bush telegraph. I suspect it’s easier to book those who infringe on the nearby car parks.
That is tried from time to time, Janet, but the effects seem to wear off pretty quickly. Tackling illegal parking is an ongoing – and frustrating – battle for all of us.
Part of the problem is that there simply aren’t enough parking wardens to go round. That’s because they’re mostly paid for by car parking revenue and, since the recession, that income’s dropped quite a lot.
We could employ more parking wardens (‘civil enforcement officers’ to give them their proper name) but we’d have to pay for it from somewhere.
