Fixing pavements in Stockport

by Lib Dem team on 31 October, 2010

Stockport has hundreds of miles of pavements.  Some have been redone recently, others are in poor condition.  The Borough is working to get round them, but with money being limited it takes longer than we’d like.

In addition to roads where the pavement has been fully re-done (e.g. Wensley Road this year), Pam and I work to spot problem sections of pavement – trip hazards mainly – and report them to the Council for fixing.

Today I was in Wensleydale Avenue and Daylesford Crescent noting down trip hazards and broken pavements which I’ve reported to the Council and asked them to repair.

If you spot trip hazards on the pavement, you can report them directly to the Council (email streetscene@stockport.gov.uk) or contact Pam or myself and we’ll take it up on your behalf.

The pavement on Broadway Avenue was “re-done” about 20 years ago. There was nothing wrong with it prior to this. However, 3 weeks after it was redone (in a very shoddy way), the area was cabled and the pavement was dug up and left in an appalling state. We have been trying ever since to get it re-done. Indeed, my neighbour has never been able to use a pushchair on the pavement and has complained constantly about the state of repairs. Her oldest is now 8!
So, for all those complaining about new pot holes, spare us a thought. Just where do we go from here?

I have lived on Buttermere Rd for 40 years….The pavements are dreadfull….they are the same pavements that were laid when we came to live here….last night I had to give the dog a walk and decided it was safer to walk in the road I was so frightened of falling, it is the same on St Annes Rd.I think we need some urgent action!!!!!!
