A quick note on the works being done to improve Gatley Road in Gatley.
At the moment the new puffin crossing, new streetlamp and built-out pavement is being put in by Gatley Station. As usual, the work is being done only outside rush hour to minimise disruption.
The next piece of work will follow on swiftly and should be done by Christmas – to put in a new puffin crossing by the Nat West/Horse & Farrier, improve the pavement and build out the pavement a little at the corner with Church Road.
Hopefully this was all go reasonably smoothly, and I’m sure it will be worth the effort and give a welcome facelift to a central part of the village, but Pam and I will continue to monitor and work closely with council officers.

Any chance of doing something about the ever dangerous right turn onto Gatley Road at the clocktower junction opposite the Horse and Farrier? You take your life in your hands at that junction! Not so bad at night as you can see the headlights from oncoming cars reflecting in the bus stop but in daylight hours it’s horrible! I have seen quite a few accidents at that spot over the years.
Hi Emma. I’d like to – the most realitic option being to put traffic lights at the junction. We don’t have money to do it right now (and when I suggested it before, the response was by no means unanimous in favour), but something along those lines.
As the traffic people say, you would never design a junction like that these days.
How about putting one of those mirrors up so you can see what’s coming down the road? That would be an inexpensive option and would certainly help drivers guage when is safe to proceed into the road? Just a thought.
The alterations under the railway bridge on Gatley Road seemed quite unnecessary to us. Also, the work appears to have stopped and nothing there seems any different than before. What on earth is going on ?
They’re doing it in sections to try and minimise disruption. Under the railway bridge, in addition to the pavement build-out there’ll be new lights and also a new street-light to improve visibility. Should all be sorted in the next few days.
