Cheadle developments update

by Lib Dem team on 26 November, 2010

Crispin Edwards from Stockport Council came to the Cheadle Village Partnership yesterday and gave us an update on various developments around Cheadle.

  • The George and Dragon pub has been sold and the intention is to refurbish and open next Spring.  More information on this soon.
  • Two major chains are interested in opening a store on the site of the current Warwick Mall (which planning permission was granted for a year or two back). Once someone’s signed on the dotted line, we’ll find out who it is.
  • The developers of the Barnes Hospital site are looking to vary the planning permission and build more family homes along with apartments.  There are also likely to be revised plans for the hospital itself.   Whether the development moved forward this time remains to be seen.
  • Similarly, some work is underway at the Bleachworks site on Mill Lane, though it’s not clear how far it will get in the near future.

It is sad to see the demise of the Mall. With a route to the car park, the businesses should have prospered. There was a (disputed) pathway alongside the old Electricity showrooms, but when the Mall was created the Council wouldn’t make sure that a public way was dedicated. I’ve asked that there should be a path maintained through the new development, but now the council don’t want to consider it. So we end up worse off n the end.

Has there been any further updates from the developers of Barnes Hospital? Its been a shame to see the building just rot away for so long now.
