From Stockport Council:
Stockport Council is soon to complete the sale of the former Peaches Nightclub site on Wellington Street, Stockport town centre, to “Johnnie” Johnson Housing Trust (JJHT).
The £6 million scheme is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Heritage Lottery Fund and the Council. It includes the redevelopment of the site and surrounding land to deliver 50 affordable and attractive homes.
The restoration and conversion of the locally-listed former nightclub building will be a key part of the project and is the final scheme within the Hillgate Townscape Heritage Initiative.
In order to protect the building from the extreme weather, JJHT will begin work on site during the week commencing 13 December. The whole development is expected to take around two years to complete, with the first properties finished by late summer 2011.
