Cheadle station – your help needed now

by Lib Dem team on 14 December, 2010

Last year we campaigned successfully to get a new station for Cheadle on the agenda.

Now the Greater Manchester Transport people are developing their strategy for the next few years and Pam and I want to ensure new stations stay in it – it’s a relatively low-cost scheme so we may be able to get it in.

The plan is to have four new stations added to the Stockport-Altrincham line: Cheadle, Gatley North, Baguley and another Manchester one that escapes me.

I need you to take a couple of minutes to complete the Greater Manchester Transport survey and let them know you want this (plus any other comments you might have).

1. Go to http://www.gmpte.com/LTP3/responding.cfm

2.  Complete the consultation – you can leave sections blank if you like.

3. On the second page of the consultation, in the section “Do you have any comments on the schemes and interventions outlined in this brochure?” put in your support for a Cheadle and Gatley North station on the Stockport to Altrincham line.

Other points I’ve made:

  • we need more bus services, especially on Gatley’s lakes estate and along Altrincham Road where we’ve lost the 44.
  • the Ring & Ride service needs to be improved so people can use it to conveniently go somewhere and get home again.
  • the sooner we can get a universal ticketing system (so one ticket covers all buses, trams and trains) and an Oyster Card type system, the better.

Gosh, having filled out the transport survey, I feel all included!

Thank you Iain for the link and the opportunity to participate.

I do object to the seemingly daft question about, are you black, white, purple, green or yellow at the end of the form. Surely one’s ethnic background has no impact on how transport should be organised?

Maybe it’s just to see what proportion of responses are from ethnic minorities? Why would they want to know that for a transport survey? Everyone from every backgroud is affected by it’s outcome. It just smacks of Big Brother to me! An explanation of why this information was required would have been beneficial.

I seem to remember they were looking to put a station on Carrs Road, Cheadle years ago – is this still on the agenda?
