From Stockport Council:
Residents will have the chance to win £500 in Recycle For Greater Manchester’s latest campaign.
Residents should look out for comic genius Dave Spikey coming through their door as he spearheads Greater Manchester’s recycling campaign to encourage residents to recycle the right items.
Residents will receive an information pack through their door from Monday 10th January, featuring Dave Spikey. This will help then distinguish between some of the common things that are often mistakenly put into their brown bin. Residents will also receive a sticker which can be put onto their bin or notice board, reminding them what can go inside it.
Once residents receive the leaflet they can enter the competition to win £500 by visiting www.recycleforgreatermanchester.com or via post.

Residents would benefit from a hot-line number to ring for advice in this worthy but complex endeavour. What should they do with the residue in glass jars of out of date mustard, etc? Should padded envelopes be dismantled? Should corks go in the green bin? Should sticky tape be removed from cardboard? These issues and many others pose dilemmas to conscientious recyclers.
Having visited the new tip layout on Longley Lane this week end it was disappointing to see the level of recycling for November was only 38% ! I’m sure it’s been higher in the past?
I wonder how the figure of 38% is arrived at. Does that mean that 62% went to landfill?
