Pam and I are working to tackle a problem with rubbish on the private stretch of road behind the Co-op at the corner of Church Road and Oakwood Avenue.
Actually, there have been several different problems.
First, several cases of bin bags building up – we’ve had them removed on more than one occasion. It’s not clear to me yet whether these are legitimate bin bags from the people in the flats above the shops that aren’t being properly collected, or whether it’s fly-tipping, or a bit of both.
Second, broken glass along the stretch of road behind the Co-op – probably not unconnected with it being a popular place for some youngsters to hang out and drink.
So what are we doing?
Pam and I are working with the police to tackle the anti-social behaviour aspects. We’re reporting a build-up of bags when it occurs and we’ve also asked Council officers to look into the cause of the bags being left there.
The situation is complicated a bit by that area being private property, but we’re working to get it sorted.

Many of the resident in this area have also repeatidly reported the rubbish behind the Co-Op to the council too (so perhaps its a community win).
Thanks – the more, the better.
Hi Ian,
On a seperate rubbish note, I went to Gatley skate park at about 10am this morning. The skate park was being used by about 1/2 dozen 3-8 years on their scooters. The place was littered with broken glass, beers can, empty glass bottles, sick and general detritus presumabley from the yoof the night before. This is not the first time I’ve found the skate park or the play park in this condition. What are the chances of the council organising a dawn cleaning patrol to clean places with vulnerable users first thing in the morning?
On another note. I spotted and reported about 1/2 dozen annoying potholes this week. They were repaired in around 48 hrs. Well done Stockport!
