Following the local elections, the Lib Dems are still – by some margin – the largest party in Stockport.
The current composition of the council is now 31 Lib Dems, 18 Labour, 11 Conservative and 3 Independent Ratepayers.
The Labour group has made it clear that they don’t want to be involved in running the Council this year, and the Liberal Democrats will continue to provide the leadership in Stockport.
However, because we’re one seat short of an overall majority, there are some decisions that the Council can overturn if the other three groups agree to do so.
We’ll be working hard to do the best for Stockport Borough over the next year – interesting times!

You say on your side panel – ‘Labour never win here’. The problem that Liberal Democrats face is that Labour is positioned very well in Cheadle and Gatley to begin to push for the council seat. It would be daft to deny this. If the Labour vote grows again next year, which I would suggest it will, the Conservatives could get in and then many Labour-inclined voters will no longer feel that they have to vote Lib Dem to keep the Tories out as the Labour vote will be large enough to push for the seat in 2014.

For voters who want to keep the Tories out, the choice is simple.
They can vote Lib Dem to get hard-working local councillors who keep in touch all year round, or they can vote Labour and get a Tory councillor.
