Cheadle Area Committee, 21st June 2011

by Lib Dem team on 14 June, 2011

June’s Cheadle Area Committee will be held next Tuesday, 21st June 2011, from 6pm.

It’s at our new venue – the Upper Rooms above Tesco in Cheadle. All are welcome – please use the Massie Street Car Park extrance to get in.

At the meeting, members of the public have the opportunity to raise local issues with the police and council, for example about crime, roads, environmental issues.

At this meeting, councillors will be considering proposals to put double yellow lines down the High Street from Warren Avenue to the Manchester Road junction. This is an issue raised by the Cheadle Village Partnership.

The full papers for the meeting, including the maps of the current and proposed parking restrictions for the High Street, can be found here.

Here’s the full agenda with all the details for the meeting, including maps showing the current and proposed situation on the High Street.

Ian, I would have liked to attend the meeting but am working. I would like to comment on the parking in the High Street. It would appear despite previous efforts that parking here is a ‘free for all’ Last week i counted six private vehicles parked between the cancer shop and the pedestrian crossing. Never seen a parking warden on this road.
Also could you please raise the increasing use of the no right turn on to the High Street from Massie St – there will soon be a bad accident if this is not nipped in the bud. thanks

I completely agree with phil, as noone has done anything to stop the right turning or the dangerous parking, people have just continued to do it – they don’t even leave their hazards on any more. It is bad for drivers but very dangerous for cyclists!
People are now parking om both sides of the road. I use the high street every day and a few of the cars parked are the same cars every day ( both range rovers!!) – what can be done about these problems before there is an accident??? X thanks

    Hi May, Phil,

On the parking on Cheadle High Street, the hope is that the double yellow lines being proposed for the High Street, plus the extra traffic wardens the Council’s recruiting, will help.

The “no right turn” is trickier – it’s a police matter to enforce it and whilst I take your point, I can also understand that the Police would find it difficult to take officers away from other duties to have them monitor that junction.

I understand that changes have been made to the traffic lights to facilitate the traffic movement through the High St.Random parking & illegal Right turn from Massie St. seems to question this expenditure…I use the High ST most days & often see cars parked on the Ped. Xing.zig zags.
PS. Ashfield Rd.is congested -the plate has been removed once again. This too negates the benefits of the traffic light changes. Thanks.
