Mark Hunter and I visited the Word in Season Flower Festival at St Mary’s Church, Cheadle this afternoon. It’s running until Sunday and I’d encourage anyone to go if you can – it’s well worth the visit.
The Festival celebrates the 400th anniversary of the translation of the King James Bible, and the different designs illustrates a message from that poetic Bible. Outside the Church, along with tea and cakes, a relay reading of much of the Bible is in progress.

The smell of the flowers was what struck me most as I came into the church (through the doors designed as biblical book-ends). And as we walked around, we were struck with the professionalism of the displays – you won’t see bunches of flowers stuck in vases – each of the displays are different and conveys a message, with the guidebook to explain in detail.

It’s obvious that many people have put in a great deal of work to make this what it is, from Church regulars to the pupils at Cheadle Primary School and Lady Barn House School. It was worth it – this is something special, and it won’t be with us for long.
