Double yellow lines approved for Cheadle High Street

by Lib Dem team on 28 June, 2011

The plan to put down double yellow lines along the length of Cheadle High Street was approved at Cheadle Area Committee last week following a consultation.

Currently there are single yellow lines. The idea is that the double yellow lines (with restricted loading times allowed for the shops) will discourage the illegal parking that can clog up the High Street.

The details are on the committee meeting agenda below starting on page 46 of the pdf, or page 41 of the printed document.

What about all the side roads? In particular, Mary Street is always blocked. Where are all the traffic wardens? they could have a field day!

Good decision but must be enforced. Parking space is at a premium in the village. I hope my suggestion of making ‘resident parking only’ spaces available to other motorists during the hours of 10:00 to 16:00 is acted upon. This would make many more spaces available to motorists who just want to stop and spend some money in the village. Only five or six of the fifteen or so spaces on Chapel Street are used during the working day.

    Hi Karen, Les,

The Council is currently employing an additional four traffic wardens especially for the district centres. They do patrol and hand out tickets, and hopefully we’ll get more attention soon.

Why are cars continually permitted to park in the bus stop space outside Tesco in Cheadle village?? This must be infuriating for the bus drivers and no-one ever seems to get reprimanded for doing it??

  5. M Cummins says:

If this is really enforced the same as Wandsworth, London, the Council could make a fortune. I ve never seen a traffic warden on the high street, only in the car parks.

I agree with the comments; double yellows are long overdue but will push traffic onto side roads and further increase the parking at the bottom of Milton Crescent – both off and on the pavements! Cheadle is well blessed with car parks compared to Didsbury, but virtually very road in Didsbury village is double yellowed. This does need to be enforced firmly and consistently.
