The Council has launched a consultation asking people in Stockport for their views on the future of sport and leisure facilities in the borough.
There are currently 16 sports and leisure facilities throughout the borough, which are owned by the Council and run on their behalf by Stockport Sports Trust. To ensure it can continue to provide the highest quality leisure facilities which are sustainable into the future, the Council has undertaken full review and has drafted a strategy for meeting the physical activity needs of Stockport people through leisure provision.
The Council wants to hear people’s views on these proposals, so a full and thorough borough-wide consultation will run from Monday 22 August – Tuesday 22 November 2011. The main points of interest in the plan are:
· Invest in and improve existing facilities.
· Build a new leisure centre to serve the town centre, Edgeley, Adswood and Bridgehall.
· Replace Target Life Lapwing with a new sports and fitness centre in a more accessible area of Brinnington.
· Build a news sports hall and fitness centre in Offerton.
· Close Peel Moat Target Fitness, as new state-of-the-art facilities are available at nearby Target Fitness + Houldsworth Village in Reddish.
