Last year the Lib Dems worked with the Council to get flooding issues fixed around Cheadle & Gatley.
Problem spots on Longley Lane, Schools Hill, West Drive, Gatley Green, Old Hall Road, Gatley Road, Broadway and others were sorted. In several cases, significant work was done to improve the drainage.
For example, the Cheadle Road entrance to Bruntwood Park now has a grill to catch debris that was causing flooding and drains around Gatley Green were repaired.
This winter we’ve been going back and getting problems solved where they’ve cropped up again. The bottom of Schools Hill and West Drive are two places we’ve taken action in the last couple of weeks, following complaints from residents.
The good news is that, because of the work done before, these are now much easier to sort. The problems we’re seeing now seem to be far more likely to just be a build-up of debris in the gully – something that can be fixed by a jetting machine spending a few minutes cleaning it out.
Please continue to let us know of problems. Some are too expensive to fully fix, or are on private land that the Council has no legal powers to resolve, but wherever we can get an issue sorted, we will continue to do so.

despite the work done re the drains, I am greatly concerned that at the corner of Wilmslow Rd/Broadway Cheadle was under water in the recent flood last month. My elderly parents, have only just returned after 12mths, due to their home being made totally uninhabitable by the flash floods of August 2011. The traffic s.truggled through the build up of water again accumulating outside their home and the council were not interested when I telephoned to bring it to their notice….I am also worried that they and other residents will not get insured if the matter is not resolved.
There is still flooding on Old Hall Lane so that it is hard to walk on the pavement or cross the road near to the health centre – e.g. on Friday 23rd
Hello
Are you aware of any flooding issues around Holmbeck House in Gatley ?
I look forward to your reply.
Regards
Edwin
Hi Edwin – no, I’m not aware of any flooding issues in that area. There used to be flooding problems in Gatley village but it’s been fine since an Environment Agency scheme about 11 years ago.
