Keith Holloway and Cllr Pam King at Ashfield Road, cleared by the Community Payback Lib Dem initiative
The Community Payback people were in action yesterday, clearing the overgrown vegetation near Cheadle Library on Ashfield Road.
This came from a local Lib Dem initiative which is seeing people on Community Payback working across Cheadle and Gatley to pick litter and clear vegetation around the area.
Local campaigner Keith Holloway said “This Liberal Democrat initiative has seen the Probation Service and the Council working together to improve our local environment, saving taxpayers money in the process.”
The Liberal Democrats, working with local residents, have identified footpaths and areas across Cheadle and Gatley which will be attended to by Community Payback on a regular basis several times a year.

Excellent news. Community Payback (or Community Service as it used to be known) is a very successful sentence of the courts in terms of offenders not reoffending. And, of course, there’s visible benefits for the community.
(I declare an interest – as a retired employee of the Probation Service which also operates the CP schemes)
