Yellow lines for Wilmslow Rd, Daylesford Crescent & Grange Park Road

by Lib Dem team on 23 March, 2010

Proposals for three new sets of double yellow lines in Cheadle are coming to Cheadle Area Committee next Tuesday evening for approval.

They are all in response to requests from local residents, and items I’ve been working with Traffic Officers at the Council for a while.

Grange Park Road

Where Grange Park Road meets Wilmslow Road, visibility can be poor.  The proposal is to put double yellow lines down both sides of Grange Park Road for the first 10 metres.  Since the law says you can’t park within 10m of a junction, this is not a change in the parking resttrictions, but should help remind people not to park there.

Daylesford Crescent

Double yellow lines are proposed going each way on Schools Hill at the junction with Daylesford Crescent.  Again, this makes clear what’s already the law and will hopefully make it easier for people to turn out of Daylesford Crescent onto Schools Hill at the busy (school) times.

Wilmslow Road

This is a short piece of yellow lining outside the Whitegates retirement home on Wilmslow Road.  Cars parking north of the entrance up to the bus stop can make it difficult for anyone leaving the home.  There’s also a short piece of yellow line on the west side by the junction with Warren Avenue.

If, as you state, parking is prohibited anyway on Grange Park Rd within 10 metres of the junction with Wilmslow Rd then yellow lines are superfluous, an unnecessary expense and a waste of Council Taxpayers money. I’m sure there must be more deserving things to spend this money on and, if not, then just don’t spend it!

Cars are regularly parked on Grange Park Road right up to the junction with Wilmslow Road. I have had a near miss with a car which was turning in at speed from Wilmslow Road and it is an accident waiting ot happen. Perhaps the car owners have forgotten their highway code. They need a reminder! Double yellow lines tend to be respected.

re Wilmslow Road & Daylesford Crescent. It’s more a problem of sight lines than cars parking that’s causing the problem as far as I am aware. If it’s parking then it’s only at school times which is only a few hours a week, over a few weeks of the year.
It’s more a need for taking back the wall on the right hand side as you exit onto Wilmslow Road from D Crescent – and that’s privately owned land.

  4. Dawn Calmonson says:

Estelle, as a resident on Daylesford Crescent I have to disagree with your comments. The double yellow lines on Schools Hill extend all the way down except to the corners of our road, leaving room for about 3 cars to hug the pavement on either side of the road. These, combined with the other (unsurmountable) problem of the wall curving away up the hill, make it absolutely impossible for us to see what is coming up and down Schools Hill towards us, and of course for these cars to see us edging out! And this parking is certainly not restricted to school hours – people working around Schools Hill park there all day.

    Hi Iain,

It’s great news for Warren Avenue that the yellow lines will help to make exiting onto Wilmslow Road that little bit easier and safer.

Would also like to say how much West Cheadle Residents Assocation appreciates all the help and advice received from Andrew Marsh at Traffic.

    Cheers,
    Kath
