Following a meeting of the Executive yesterday, Stockport Council has announced that the Avondale and Peel Moat leisure centres – both threatened with closure – will remain open until at least May 2011.
At that time, the Council and the Sports Trust will bring forward a new strategy for leisure provision across Stockport.
This is a welcome reconsideration. The Council has put its hands up, admitted it acted too hastily and has been busy listening to the views and concerns of those worried about the closure.
The result of that listening: real action.

can you ask them to clean the showers at Peel Moat?

I’m not sure that the right thing is going to be done yet. Keep checking our out website as some interesting information might start to appear. If you are the person you claim to be on this blog, then you might want to start asking some questions of how the sports trust and council officers have gone about this task and their motives.
I’d also question whether this could really be described as action, more withdrawal from action. Action would see some maintenance work and promotion of avondale.
