St Ann’s Road North parking issue update

by Lib Dem team on 24 March, 2011

At Area Committee on Tuesday we had a further discussion about the problem on St Ann’s Road North where between 5 and 15 cars have taken to parking near Cheadle Royal, causing problems on the road.

Please take a look at my previous posts on this subject for the background details.

The result of the discussion is still that there are no easy options, but we’ve asked the Council’s traffic people to take a look at it.

If we want to stop them with a legal mechanism, it means putting lines down on the road – not an option I’m thrilled about, but possibly the best on offer. My suggestion to be considered is for a single yellow line with no parking for just one hour during the day (e.g. from 1pm to 2pm, Monday to Friday). Traffic wardens could then drop by during that hour and ticket anyone parked up, but it wouldn’t be a problem for residents and their visitors.

However, the issue with lines is that it can just move vehicles down the road – not solving the problem but giving it to someone else.

We also think the business park’s managers – MUSE, based in Salford Quays – could do more, perhaps by allowing cars to park on their road in the park, or to use the currently empty car parks by unlet premises. We’ll be approaching them.
