We were pleased to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to Cheadle & Gatley today.
Along with local MP Mark Hunter, Nick had a tour of North Cheshire Jewish Primary, before visiting The Kingsway School and answering some excellent questions from some of the year 11 pupils (topic covered included tuition fees, EMA, votes at 16, green energy, Libya and Afghanistan).

Regarding tuition fees… how did Cleggy ‘wriggle’ out of that one ? !
Don’t think there was any wriggling.
He just pointed out the facts – no student pays anything up front, or pays a penny until they graduate and they’re earning £21k. There’s more help for poorer students than under the current system. Everyone will pay back over £500 less each year than under the current system. People will pay back over a longer period, but those in low paid jobs will pay back less than under the current system – it’s only those in higher paid jobs who’ll end up paying more.
Clegg at kingsway?
THAT IS MY SCHOOL!!!
re: Solly. You did not miss much !
“There’s more help for poorer students than under the current system.”
What does this mean? How can any student be richer or poorer than another? The whole point is they are students – they don’t have an income.
And I really don’t like politicans forcibly lining kids up for photo opportunities. Not good.
Hi Peter,
No-one was forced to line up for a photo – the pupils wanted the photo.
Under the new system there is more help for students from poorer families for their living expenses. Additionally, for the first time ever, no student has to pay a penny up front for their education, including part-time students.
