Stockport’s economic strategy 2012-17

by Lib Dem team on 10 January, 2012

Stockport’s economic strategy for the next five years seeks to build on our success as a borough in having a high-skilled population with lower unemployment than the Greater Manchester or UK averages.

34.7% of working age residents have a degree or higher qualification, well above the national average. Our residents are highly productive and have higher than average salaries (£25,973 per annum). We have 12,100 businesses resident in Stockport Borough, the second highest number in Greater Manchester and 13% of the total.

This strategy aims to build on those assets in these difficult times.

The strategy is focussed completely on the Town Centre.

Why does it ignore District Centers?

  2. Iain Roberts says:

    Hi Andrew,

The vast majority of the strategy applies right across, so it certainly doesn’t ignore district centres.

However, it does have to focus on areas in need of improvement, and we’re lucky enough to have District Centres which are doing pretty well – certainly compared to similar areas elsewhere.
