Event to give post-16 options information to parents of year 10/11 pupils

by Lib Dem team on 18 January, 2012

Stockport Council is encouraging parents/guardians of young people to come along to an information evening to find out about the options available in further education, apprenticeships or employment when their child leaves school at 16.

The event, at Stockport Town Hall on Tuesday 24th January 6-8pm, is for parents/guardians of pupils in Years 10-11 – the final two years of school.

The event will give people the chance to meet over 30 colleges, training providers and support agencies – including the National Apprenticeship Service, Jobcentre Plus and Council staff – face to face to answer questions about courses and what young people can
do after leaving school or college.

Presentations and where to go for information advice and guidance take place throughout the evening.

The aim is that parents will have an understanding of the opportunities available post-16 and that this will encourage more young people to progress after school or to gain work or go into further education and training.

For more information about the event, contact the Council on 0161 474 2350 or email apprenticeships@stockport.gov.uk
