Old Rectory Gardens parking changes knocked back after business concerns

by Lib Dem team on 30 August, 2012

After the Council received a petition from some of the businesses on Old Rectory Gardens, Cheadle (next to the Post Office), proposals were brought forward to reduce the maximum parking time there from one hour to 20 minutes (the original request was for 15 minutes).

That proposal was then advertised, inviting people to object if they wanted and it was an example of how that was needed. We had a number of objections from other nearby businesses who clearly didn’t share the view that the time should be reduced.

Having looked at both sides, councillors decided to withdraw the proposed change and leave the parking time at one hour. If some businesses want to change it, they really need to get wider agreement first.

Satisfactory outcome but highlights the need to consult all interested parties when such proposals are being considered.

Agreed the correct outcome – no change is often the best option and the process in my view has worked well in this case.

right outcome; some of the businesses on Rectory Gardens are NOT fast fooderies. One is an eat in cafe, one is a barbers and there is a pawn shop. Then there is the Post Office itself; all of htese businesses can attract custom that needs more than half an hour minimum waiting time.

Is there any chance that the curves parking spaces outside the post office can be realigned? Parking on a curve? Not easy.
