Stockport toured the UK for Comic Relief, appearing as Belfast, Mansfield and Newport Pagnall

by Lib Dem team on 16 March, 2013

We don’t do things in half-measures in Stockport, and for Peter Kay’s Sofa Ride, the whole town toured the UK.

Stockport first turned up in Belfast to kick off Peter Kay’s Comfy Sofa Challenge, as Stockport Mayor Wendy Meikle became the first person ever to simultaneously be Mayor of an English town and of the capital of Northern Ireland.

The town of Stockport continued it’s fund-raising tour of the UK, turning up in Mansfield a few minutes later.

And then Stockport completed the town’s UK tour for Comic Relief by appearing as Newport Pagnall

We’re proud that the whole town has been able to tour the UK and raise millions for Comic Relief in the process. We’re also proud that Stockport is being used more and more for location filming, whether it’s this, Last Tango in Halifax, CBBC’s The Four O’Clock Club or others, Stockport is proving to be a good place to make TV.

The “Belfast” start of Peter Kay’s tour was filmed in St. Peter’s Square, Stockport. The Newport Pagnall shot is on Marketplace/St Petersgate just a minute’s walk from St Peter’s Square. The Mansfield shot has Peter Kay going past Stockport’s council offices on Piccadilly, a little under five minutes walk from St Peter’s Square.
