Crushing off-road bikes last year

Inspector Peter Smith from the Stockport West Police is asking local residents to report any illegal off-road bikes. They tend to be more of a problem in the warmer weather and are often seen around the Oak Road area of Cheadle.

Police have already seized two bikes recently and want to get more, so please call the Police on 101 if you have any information that could lead the Police to the owners of any of these bikes.

We were in Oak Road with our Cheadle and Gatley residents survey a couple of weeks ago and several residents raised the issue with us – we know they’re around and causing a nuisance and we need to get them off our streets – and crushed!

    Hi Ian,

Have you got any advice on how to identify an illegal biker?
I was very nearly mown down by a quad biker at hollhedge park a few years back. Revenge is on my mind!

If in doubt, report it to the Police (call 101). Especially if you can say where the biker lives or can identify the rider.

Next time I see another one riding on Brookfields Park, behind the leisure centre, I’ll see if he will stop and give me his name and address.

Hi Bob – I know a lot of the time you don’t know where they go; and of course that means the Police won’t either. Just stating the obvious really – the way the Police catch these guys will nearly always be finding where they live, not happening to be in exactly the right place at the right time to grab them in the street.

We have have had illegal bikers on Gatley Carrs at least twice in the past few weeks.

I have reported them and the second time our Ranger was with us and he did the same. Unfortunately the police didn’t arrive for a further half hour by which time they had been gone for ages!
