Lib Dems: 2000 doors knocked in three months in Cheadle and Gatley

by Lib Dem team on 29 June, 2013

The Local Lib Dems are on course to knock on all 6,000 doors in the ward before the elections next May.

In the last three months we’ve knocked on over 2,000 doors and spoken to hundreds of residents.  We’ve got a big pile of returned Residents Surveys which people have filled in, letting us know what the issues are, so we can work on getting them sorted.

Last week we were in Cheadle, calling on Bulkeley Road, New Hey Road, Newboult Road and Frances Street.

This week we’ve been in Gatley’s Lakes Estate, speaking to residents on Buttermere, Grasmere, Troutbeck, Kendal and the roads off.

Great to speak to everyone.  If we call and you’re out, we’ll leave a Residents’ Survey which you can complete and return to our freepost address.

There’s never any need to wait for us to call round – if you’ve got something you want to raise with us, just call, email or write.

    Hello Ian,

When will you be coming to the Groves (off Styal Road)? I have been the victim of a serious internet sales scam costing several hundred pounds for an initial 2 x £1.99 ‘offer’! I realise that these risks were mentioned in an earlier Lib Dem News in April but unfortunately after I had placed an order. I feel these practices should be outlawed and those responsible held accountable. I anticipate that tens of thousands of pounds are being fraudulently collected in this way and the matter probably referred to our MP for action.

    One was warned !

Expensive lesson, perhaps the offer was too good to be true, would be good to share details with others.

    DR C:
Unfortunately not early enough for me.

    Bob:
I agree. The subject was covered in Lib Dem News for 21 April 2013 but I think the Trading Standards Authority need to take action to stop this practice.

    Hi jfgb,

We visited the Groves a few weeks ago, and we did pick up that issue. It’s one that the Police, Council and other agencies are doing a lot of work on, through the Safer Stockport Partnership.

That covers both spreading word about the problem to get people informed and where an offence is committed, taking action to arrest tho criminals.

So, for example, this press release was recently put out to warn people about rogue traders going door to door:
