Mark Hunter’s Notes from Westminster

by Lib Dem team on 3 July, 2013

Dear Resident,

Welcome to the latest edition of my Notes from Westminster.

July 19th sees the end of the second round of consultation for the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road and I am urging local residents to have their say as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP, confirms finance deal is in place for necessary funding.
Earlier this month, I spent the morning celebrating 20 years of the Fledglings Pre-school and Day Nursery in Bramhall with the parents, children and staff. I received a tour of the nursery facilities and was able to see the improvements carried out thanks to a £75,000 grant from Stockport Council and the fundraising efforts of parents and friends.
June has seen the launch of my ‘Million Jobs campaign’. Already more than one million private sector jobs have been created since the Coalition Government came to power and now the Liberal Democrats want to create a million more.  I am working with local businesses to ensure we have more apprenticeships locally. If you own a local business and think you could benefit from taking on an apprentice, please get in touch –http://www.amillionjobs.org/businesses
The British Heart Foundation held a special campaign event in Westminster which I was able to attend to highlight childhood obesity. The latest figures from the National Child Measurement Programme show 18.4% per cent of Year 6 children in Stockport are obese, one of the lowest figures in Greater Manchester but still too high.
I also send my congratulations to Walthew House, which supports people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing in Stockport for being named Cheadle Sainsbury’s new Local Charity Partner and will now receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support. The centre does excellent work in our community and is deserving of our support.
Along with fellow members of the House of Commons, I had the opportunity last week to sample the quality of food currently served in schools across England and Wales and the Members were both surprised and very impressed with what was on offer. The lunch was marking the launch of this year’s National School Meals Week and promoting all that’s great about school lunches including the benefits of our school children eating a healthy, nourishing and affordable meal on a regular basis.
I was also invited to celebrate National Care Home Open Day with the residents, staff and friends of Sunrise Senior Living of Bramhall at a summer barbecue. It was a real pleasure to be invited to celebrate National Care Home Day with local residents, acknowledging the role of care homes in our community and the hard work of all the staff.
I was also very pleased to see that my colleague and friend Andrew Stunell, MP for Hazel Grove constituency, has been awarded a knighthood and that many local residents also had their achievements recognised in HM The Queen’s Birthday Honours. I salute all those mentioned in the birthday honours list for their outstanding contributions and offer my sincere thanks for all their efforts over the years.
As always, if there is ever anything I can be of assistance with, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at mark.hunter.mp@parliament.uk, or by writing to me at my constituency office at Hillson House, 3 Gillbent Road, Cheadle Hulme SK8 7LE; I am always happy to try and help.
Best wishes,

Mark Hunter MP

P.S. There is still time to sign nuisance calls petition calling for better protection from irritating and annoying sales calls. Residents can still back the campaign here.
