Local landlord Steve Bates has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after attacking a 46 year old man with a hammer in his pub, the White Hart Pub, Cheadle.

Police were called to the pub shortly before 5pm on Thursday 18th July. The victim, who had a serious puncture wound to the neck, has been taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.  Witnesses say the victim was assaulted with a hammer after buying a round of drinks.

Mr Bates, 36, has been bailed until 16th August for further enquiries.

The Police are working with the brewery in relation to the White Hart and are keeping a close eye on the pub and the neighbourhood.
