Hot days mean more work for the Police, says Inspector

by Lib Dem team on 12 August, 2013

Speaking to Cheadle Area Committee last week our new Stockport West Inspector, Dave Barrett told us that some of the days when the weather was hottest were busier for the police than New Year’s Eve.

Although making clear that crime overall is down, and has been falling for nine years in Stockport, Inspector Barrett said that windows and doors left open on hot days accounted for around a third of all burglaries.  He urged people to make sure we close windows and doors at night, don’t leave keys in doors, and check the car’s locked before going to bed (just pointing the  fob through a window and pressing the lock button will do the trick).

The Police are running Operation Whistler, targeting known offenders and encouraging them not to offend again.  As part of the operation, 14 arrests have been made for theft, 500 burglary packs delivered to residents in higher-risk areas, a stolen cycle recovered and over 30 illegal off-road motorbikes crushed.

You can the latest information from the Police, including contact information for our Stockport West officers at the GMP site.  You can see the crimes in your area at the police.uk website.
