Cheadle area committee round-up

by Lib Dem team on 25 September, 2013

Cheadle Area Committee was on Tuesday 24th September 2013. This monthly meeting, open to all members of the public, is where the nine councillors for Cheadle & Gatley, Cheadle Hulme North and Heald Green take many of the decisions affecting the local area. Meetings are currently held at Bolshaw Primary School, Cross Road, Heald Green.

Here’s the action from the latest meeting:

  • Planning application 52823 (new house behind 103 Gatley Road) was refused by councillors, although officers had recommended grant.  We felt that the house was too close to the retirement flats, breaching the Council’s planning policy.
  • Planning application 52858 (hot food takeaway for 20 Old Rectory Gardens, Cheadle) was granted.  If I had a free choice, I would have refused it but there were no legal planning grounds to do so.  We left the applicant in no doubt that he needs to be careful to ensure noise, odour and litter are not a problem for local residents and we’ll be following that up if they are.
  • We approved the new A34 cycle route, including a route through the South Park Road estate.  The plans include a new speed table at the slip road entrance to the estate, a 20mph zone across the whole estate and major improvements to the footpath alongside the slip road from Kingsway.  It does not include any changes to the one-way roads on the estate – residents were consulted and didn’t want that to happen, so it won’t.
  • Following consultation with residents, we approved double yellow lines around the junction of Hawthorn Road and Acres Road.  Proposals to change the time that the single yellow lines operated outside the school for (from 8.30 to 8am) were rejected by residents so will not happen.
  • We gave the final go-ahead for the improvements to Cheadle village widely consulted on over the last year – work starts on 30th September.
  • We gave the final go-ahead to double yellow lines around the chicanes and the business park pedestrian entrances on St Ann’s Road North to improve safety – we’re working on how to sort out the parking problems (see here)
  • We approved the November Makers’ Market on Cheadle Green.  The December one we delegated to Cllr June Somekh to approve as there were a few issues unclear in the submission and we want to check.
  • We agreed to the reappointment of Mrs Sheila Mepham as a governor at Gatley Primary School
  • We decided to refurbish the four benches on Church Road alongside Gatley Green

  1. Alan Gent says:

When are the planning laws going to be changed to reflect demand? There were only objections regarding the new takeaway yet still he gets approval. Where is our voice in these matters. Isn’t he satisfied with the RBS takeaway in Gatley without swamping Cheadle as well?
