Dear resident,

I want to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a healthy and successful New Year.

I am immensely proud and honoured to represent our area and I thoroughly enjoy working on behalf of all local residents.

Whether it’s visiting local schools and businesses, attending charity events or supporting our many voluntary groups – or at my regular surgeries – it is always good to meet with local people, talking with those who spare so much time and energy putting something back into our area.

So let me take this opportunity to say ‘Thank you’ to the many people who serve our area and help make it a safer, fairer and a better place to live  and, of course, not forgetting  the armed forces, the emergency services and our nurses  who do such a fabulous job.

The Lib Dem team and I will continue to work hard on your behalf, and as you know I am always ready to take on the big issues in Westminster fighting for our local community.

During 2013, I have taken the campaign to end nuisance sales calls to the heart of Government and received backing from Senior Ministers for the next phase of the long awaited Relief Road to mention just two key campaigns. 2014 will, I am sure, bring more challenges and opportunities as we strive for a stronger economy and a fairer society both locally and nationally.

I do hope that you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

Mark Hunter
Liberal Democrat MP for Cheadle Constitunecy

P.S. I hope you will find the following information helpful over the festive season.

Useful information

Stockport Council has altered some of the bin collections over the festive period and I thought you might be interested to have the details.

There will be no green bins – for green and food waste – between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, while most collections due on a bank holiday will take place later in the week or the following week. New Year’s Day collections will take place on December 28.

The key changes are:

* Blue and brown collections due on Christmas Day will take place on Monday, December 30

* Black bin collections due on Christmas Day and Boxing Day will now be on Friday, December 27

* Blue and brown collections due on Boxing Day will be on New Year’s Eve

* All collections due on New Year’s Day will take place on Saturday, December 28

Christmas trees can be recycled by chopping it into pieces and putting it in the green food/garden bin while food waste such as turkey carcasses and plate scrapings can also go in this bin to be collected for composting.

If you have any medical emergencies over Christmas, please call 999 or for less urgent advice, call 111.

If anyone needs to contact the Council regarding an emergency whilst the civic buildings are closed to the public, they should phone 0161 477 2626.

In an emergency, out of office hours, people in need of social care support for adults and children can phone 0161 718 2118.
