Cheadle Green improvements start

by Lib Dem team on 21 February, 2014

Update from the Council:

Work began yesterday with the removal of trees and vegetation around the pond area (Phase 1). I understand archaeologists will be on site over the weekend to excavate this area behind the Institute building. A temporary compound has been established while consultations continue with Stockport Homes and residents of Queens Gardens. Hopefully agreement will be reached to allow for the compound to be relocated on the Queens Gardens side as per attached phasing plan.

Hours of operation – after consultation hours have been relaxed and are now 8:00 to 16:30. Delivery hours remain at 10:00 to 15:00. All parties have been informed that these times are subject to review. Should there be any complaints the contractors are required to take immediate steps to resolve the situation.

Health and Safety – the project is notifiable under H & S regulations so I have arranged for Watts Plc to act as Construction (Design & Management) co-ordinator. Watts handle the CDM aspects of Council projects and have advised that they are satisfied that this project conforms and can therefore proceed.

If construction proceeds on schedule works should be completed by the end of May.

As Chairman and Treasurer of Cheadle Civic Society I think that I should point out that The Cheadle Green Project is a result of several years planning and negotiations from when we first put the idea to SMBC.
The total cost of the project and maintainance of the Green when completed is being paid by Cheadle Civic Society.

Hi Phillip – I agree, and we’ve always made that very clear so happy for you to restate. We’ve been very happy to support the work of the Civic Society on Cheadle Green over the last couple of years.

  3. Oian says:

This project is well overdue and once completed, should transform a relatively unused and dead space into a central community greenspace hub for Cheadle people. I hope the finished article will make best use of the space and encourage people to rest and take in the area.
