Cheadle Makers Market returns – on Saturday 3rd May, a great way to start the bank holiday weekend.
This market will be on the White Hart car park next to St Mary’s Church. The aim is to bring the Makers Market back to Cheadle Green in June.

Let us hope that the return of the Makers Market to Cheadle Green does not undo all the good work currently in progress to smarten up the area. Before this work was started, the previous Market had churned up the grass into a muddy quagmire. There is a way round the problem. I have seen car parking on grass and heavy pedestrian traffic on grass be made grass-friendly by embedding hollow concrete slabs in the grassed area. The grass grows through the holes in the slabs and the weight of both feet and wheels is taken by the concrete, thereby protecting the grass from damage. The concrete is visible close up, but to passersby a few yards away, the surface appears to be a well-grassed area. Our parks department experts are probably aware of this user-friendly and cost-effective option?
A less permanent and cheaper solution may be to lay matting for the stalls/ stall holders leaving customers to use the paths?
After all the time, effort, and money, that Cheadle Civic Society are putting into the renovation of Cheadle Green-you can be assured that we will be monitoring the markets to ensure that they have as little impact as possible on the ground.
The market – according to this piece – will be nowhere near The Green.
So, blogger nos. 1,2,3 – stop your fretting !
This one isn’t, Robert, but the plan is for the markets to return to the Green from June, which is what Stuart, Alan and Phillip are discussing.
as if we haven’t got enough shopping opportunies!!
Indeed, Councillor, but, if the new site proves to be more popular / succesful than the inconvenient Green – surely the market would stay ?
Methinks the Green unsuitable on account of its location (the wrong side of the road ) and the ground. (paryicularly when wet).
The new site also offers a useful ‘bolt hole’ – to escape to for liquid refreshment !
Just to keep it humerous-where is ‘The White Horse’?
PG-B – humerous ? – illiterate !
