40 Foxland Road application withdrawn by applicants

by Lib Dem team on 29 June, 2014

The planning application for the Islamic teaching and cultural centre at 40 Foxland Road, Gatley to be able to open 24 hours a day has been withdrawn by the applicants.

This means the application is no longer live and will not be coming forward for a decision by either officers or councillors.

As local councillors, we’ve worked to keep residents informed and we’ve also spoken to the applicants to ensure they understand the concerns being raised with us and with the planners.

The applicants may bring forward a new application either for the same thing or something different in the future, in which case the Council will have a legal duty to properly consider it as with all applications. Whatever happens, we’ll work to keep residents informed.

If they held a competition for the best planning application of the year I reckon this one would not have won it!

We welcome people from all walks of life, but nobody wants cars driven in and out of streets in gatley in the late hours, as a resident, that was my main concern.

I can’t imagine that there will be any need for this centre if Cheadle Mosque Association is granted planning permission to extend over green belt land and convert the Heald Green Mosque in to a Mega-Mosque(application number 055162.) The plans show that the floor space will be tripled.Though C.M.A say that they are not looking to attract any more new members. Local opinion is very strong with 334 objections and even a facebook page set up to oppose it!

  5. Lesley says:

Thank god for that, common sense prevailed for once.

    @Graham

The CMA (Cheadle Mosque) is available for the entire community to use. I believe to date, scout groups, interfaith groups and other local groups have made use of the football pitch at the back of the Mosque. Whatever the plans are it will be a Centre for the whole community to use.

I am unsure what your are worried about. Yes there are a few muppets who drive/park incorrectly and have no manners but you find that in every community.

I have seen this Centre transform lives of youths in the area (particularly Asian youths) who on a daily basis would get up to no good in the community. Mosque or no Mosque the number of ‘British Asian’ people in the Cheadle vicinity will grow slowly and inevitably you will see more of us.

We want Cheadle and its areas a better place to live and if you read the CMA website you will see all the local good work that they do.

Pleased to hear that – for traffic and noise reasons.
I wonder why they withdrew it, and to where they have shifted their attention for an alternative premises?

  8. Mak says:

The mosque on Foxlands and the one on Finney Lane should be closed down. There is not ample parking available and is disgusting to see our roads and pavements turned into parking lots.

I am muslim and want these mosques shut down or relocated into a non residential or off the high street area

    CMA have it right
