While others just talk about road repairs, the Lib Dems are delivering: our £100 million roads repair programme is already underway with hundreds of roads across Stockport being properly resurfaced over the next year.
But after decades of governments underfunding our roads, the announcement of a guaranteed five year funding agreement from the Coalition to help Stockport do even more repairs is welcome.
The Government is allocating over £16 million to Stockport for road repairs over the next five years – and although it’s only a fraction of the £100 million the Lib Dems are already spending, it will make a real difference and allow us to repair even more roads and pavements across the borough.

Could the Council please look at Firs Road, it is now heavily pot holed and in a terrible state, not to mention the road leading to the Fairway.
Hi Jonathan,
Firs Road is certainly one that needs to be properly resurfaced as part of the £100 million scheme. In addition, you can report specific potholes at stockport.gov.uk which will get them patched.
Well done – THE TORIES !
From what I have seen there are very few roads from Gatley in the 1st phase.
Which Gatley roads will be resurfaced in the next 12 months?
Phil – you’re right, it’s being done area by area and not everyone can be in the first phase. However, Styal Road has been resurfaced and there’s more work being done on a number of areas.
Daylesford Crescent footpaths are lethal. Hope some of the money is being earmarked to improve the payments.

Pavements are included in the Lib Dem £100 million plan, Diane and there are pavements already being repaired across Stockport. I agree Daylesford needs to be done.
I’ve been complaining about the lie of the payments that run along Stockport Road Cheadle from Hayes Flower Shop to the corner of the old Police Station for past two years and just get the brush off.
Even after a shower the narrow pavement holds the water in spots and after a lot of rain its like walking over a pond.
There are shops at this end of Cheadle Councillor, so why is it only the Wilmslow Rd shops that get good pavements?
Hi Margaret,
You’re right – we’ve never had the money to sort out that particular issue because there haven’t been trip hazards, which are the focus of maintenance work, and the council has to focus funds on the most serious problems.
Hopefully we can take another look at the pavements you’re concerned about, but it’s true that financial constraints has meant the council hasn’t been able to do all the repairs we want.
thanks for replying Ian, but I can assure you that there
WERE trip hazards on the days when the pools of water that lie there for days freezes up!
What about Manchester Road, near the Alexandra Hospital? Are they ever going to fix the potholes left behind?
I believe so, Jennifer, but I’ll take a look and chase it up.
