Works on Kingsway School subway over half term

by Lib Dem team on 27 January, 2015

Repair and improvement works on the Kingsway School subway (passing under the A34 between Foxland Road and Broadway) will run over half term, scheduled to take five days from 16th February 2015, though if weather is especially bad the work may need to be extended.

The proposed works incorporate both the East and the West Entrance Head/Wing Walls of the Kingsway School Subway, resolving the defects identified by recent Structural Inspections.

These works include:

  • Take down the existing fence to both the east and west entrance headwalls.
  • Replace the existing fencing with a pre-fabricated Key-Klamp and mesh infill system, incorporating the wing walls on both approaches.
  • Take down and replace the existing timber rail and plastic mesh fence on the west embankment.
  • Undertake some minor concrete repairs.
  • Undertake some minor de-vegetation to gain access to the works area.

The estimated works duration is 5 days (subject to weather conditions).

In order for the works to be undertaken a restricted access will be place, reducing the width at the subway entrances to accommodate a small scaffold tower.

The restricted access will accommodate passing pedestrians, stopping works when required and allowing them to pass under the supervision of a works banksman.

Likewise there will be some restriction to the footpath above the structure running perpendicular to the subway, again this will be controlled by the works banksman.

As a member of staff at TKS I am very aware of the dangers of the concrete in the subway when walking up and down it – are you planning on cleaning the surface so that it is not as slippery under foot ?
