As Mark, Graham and the Lib Dem team have been pressing for, TfGM are now installing a CCTV camera at the junction to better monitor traffic flows. The hope is that it will enable them to modify the traffic light timings remotely and better respond to queue lengths at the junction to get traffic flowing as freely as possible.
Contractors working on behalf of TfGM will be carrying out trial hole works on Kingsway at the junction with Gatley Road. The work is scheduled to take place on Monday 13th April between 09:30 and 15:30 and will require a northbound lane closure.

A really positive move to address this problem. Hopefully too, the cameras will pick up all the drivers on Kingsway who do a u turn to head back up the A34 towards Manchester. They restrict the left turning traffic from Gatley.
Perhaps a camera could be erected to catch the numerous red light jumpers traveling out of Gatley
There are still impatient overtakers using the southbound Gatley right-turn lane for overtaking and jumping back into the straight-on lane just before the lights. This practice is particularly prevalent by cars coming from the M60 and is selfish and dangerous. I believe there should be a continuous white line for the Gatley lane to indicate that this is not permitted. Will the camera catch such infringers?
I agree – & I’m normally stuck behind someone who’s trying to queue-jump when I’m trying to turn right into Gatley.
The signs that show all 3 lanes going straight ahead don’t help when the lane to Gatley is a turn right only!
Sorry to be boring but I must repeat the obvious – smoothing out wrinkles will make no significant change to an ugly dress. The only effective and long-term solution is by providing North-South and East-West through traffic with non-suburban routes. Instead of wasting billions on political posturing – HS2 – an effective government would solve existing problems which would do far more to improve the economy and more quickly.
