The pavements on the streets behind the Tatton are in a terrible state. The paving slabs outside the Co-op in Gatley are so uneven they are hazardous. When are these ever going to be made safe?
Hi Carolyn,
The streets behind the Tatton are part of the Lib Dem £100 million investment. They’re in the programme but I don’t have a date yet for when they’ll be done (the order of what gets done when hasn’t been decided).
I’ll check the slabs outside the Co-op – should be able to get those sorted.
Hi Carolyn,
I’ve looked in more detail at the paving in front of the Co-op (and other units) opposite Gatley Green. The reason it’s in poor condition is that it’s privately owned – probably by whoever owns the building – and not owned or maintained by the Council.
We’ll see if we can find out who does own it and press them to improve it – if someone were to fall and injure themselves, the owner could be liable.
Having seen the Council spend a lot of money improving our Paving it makes me mad to see people mount the pavement in cars and dash into shops. This is very common around the end of the village going up to Cheadle Hulme around the area of the Art Shop for children and the deli.
Can the council act to stop this in this area and throughout Cheadle to protect their investment.
In Manchester they tow you away if you park on the pavements, with a release fee to get your car back. We’d make a fortune from Milton Crescent alone!
Do you think a weekday start of 8:00 during the morning rush hour is for the best?
Hi Alf – as long as they aren’t closing a lane on the road, probably yes.
Side roads need attention as well!! I have complained for many years about the state of our pavements on Daylesford Crescent without success but we do our best to keep the grass verge outside our home looking neat and tidy by paying our own gardener to mow it regularly and then we get big 4 x 4 cars, lorries etc., visiting other houses, mounting the grass indenting huge tyre marks leaving a muddy mess. Is there something that can be done to prevent this?
Absolutely Carole, and the result is a £100 million programme to properly resurface every bad road and pavement in Stockport – programme that’s already well underway.
The grass verge issue is one we’ve made progress on – there’s now an option we have to reinforce the verges or to tarmac them (depending on what residents want). We can’t do it everywhere as there’s only so much money to go round, but where there’s a problem we can look at it. Drop me an email with the details of which verge(s) need attention.
