Cheadle village parking and pavements

by Lib Dem team on 19 April, 2016

The new parking charges came into force as promised on 19th April. These charges – agreed by traders and residents – are aimed at freeing up more short-stay parking in the village centre car parks. If they work as we hope, the council won’t get any extra money from long-stay parking because the people who were parking all day for £2 will find other places to park.

We’ll be keeping an eye on it, but please let us know how you think it’s going too.

We’ve also had complaints about some of the new paving stones coming loose in the village. The contractor has now been back and tell us that the loose paving stones have been properly fixed in position, so tell us if you spot any that are still loose and we’ll chase it up.

In the 28 yrs I have lived off Grange Park Rd I have always been concerned about the lack of visibility when trying to drive out onto Wilmslow Rd. You can actually hide a double decker bus in the bend of the road outside Whitegate apartments. Since the increase in parking charges it has become impossible to see cars coming from Cheadle, because of cars parked right up to the road junction. It is an accident waiting to happen, and I feel the double yellow lines need to come right up to the junction with Grange Park Road.

I’ve seen a recent increase in leaving cars wherever possible, especially outside Chickadees on Wilmslow Road which causes real congestion problems back to the junction with Cheadle Road

Those ‘other places to park’ probably mean the road I live on!

Hello…the walk from Mumbai at Warren Ave to the village…a regular click! Lots of places in the village of which regular walkers are all too well aware. I have asked previously about more bollards ar the pavement edges, what progress?
Query as to the position with regard to replacing the litter bin which was at the bus stop by the Istanbul restaurant.
Whilst attending to the litter at South Park, please will you look at the area of the steps leading from Kingsway past the Barnes project? Better stop a book is in progress…Than you

Cars are now parking most of the way up Milton Crescent. Personally, although I only drive up Milton, I find it very disfiguring and it’s also an accident waiting to happen; people ignore the 20mph limit and speed through between two lines of parked cars.
    Is this progress?

I’m fed up of nearly being knock down by bikes on the pavements
They don’t ride on the road
Also they jump the lights wen cars stop they don’t

    • Trevor Gaunt says:

Riding of push bikes on the footway could result from cycle lanes being blocked by parked vehicles.

    • Halifaix says:

      Jean,

Before you have a go at cyclist I have the following observations

yes ‘some’ jump traffic lights, but according to the statistic no one has been killed because by this is the last twelve months, so whilst it maybe an annoyance, the reality is that it is not a big issue.

However daily I see drivers on phones, speeding, edging into the cycle lane whilst waiting to pull out from junctions – these action do kill people (well the first do)

Everyday I see dozens of cars that must have driven on the pavement. If you look at Milton Cresent now, you will see at least half a dozen cars parked on the pavement, and the only way they gor there was by driving. Also I ahev off road parking, so every day I drive across the pavement in my car

  7. Les Leckie says:

Why do cars parked on Milton Crescent cause disfigurement, Alan, any more than they would on any street? They have to go somewhere don’t they?

  8. Chris Hornby says:

Of course parked cars cause a ‘disfigurement’ and a major nuisance on Milton Crescent! They are also parked halfway across the pavement causing problems when actually walking down the road. They have to park across the pavement otherwise there wouldn’t be a way through for cars.
The other day one car was parked so far over the pavement it was impossible to get passed it without having to walk on the road.
How can that situation possibly be acceptable?
I take it Mr Leckie that you are quite happy to see our roads looking like car parks.

  9. Les Lecke says:

Damn this predictive text, Mr Hornby.

I don’t believe the contractor has been back to put right the poor workmanship that resulted in loose parings, if they have then their remedial work is as bad as their initial efforts.
If they can’t or won’t rectify the shoddy work then the Council should employ a different Contractor to rectify the numourous loose parings and pass the charges on to the original contractor. Iain there are tens if not hundreds of badly laid loose paving , I think the remedial contractor “should have gone to Specsavers” good luck with sorting it out

I agree with above comments regarding parking outside Chickadees the patrons using this establishment also drive the wrong way up Brooklyn Road park on the yellow lines park in resident only parking areas, there seems to be little if any enforcement taken against these people.this establishment causes a lot of unsociable behaviour, Chicadees even has a fire door that opens out on to the quite narrow pavement in Brooklyn Road, my daughter was hit by this door and almost knocked over when one of the employees was using it as a exit ( I had thought that it was against planning to open a door onto a pavement and also to use a marked fire exit as a regular door for smoke breaks and taking out food orders) , please enlighten me if I’m right or wrong

  12. Les Leckie says:

Don’t you mean some off-the-wall patrons, Roy? I walk there.

  13. Hilda Berryman says:

There’s also been a huge increase in cars parking along Manchester Rd, near the Ashlea towards the Alex hospital. This makes for a dangerous road. Whilst these people are not breaking the law as there are no double hello lines (some of the cars belong to council employees working at Ashlea House now that the pub has chained off there car park), I agree with the above comments that parking in the village is now worse than it has ever been. Why on earth wasn’t the Alex coalyard opportunity looked at further.

  14. Anne Godfrey says:

There aren’t just some paving stones, there are a lot as I’m still walking over them in every direction through the village centre and leading up to it.

  15. Sam Jensen says:

Simple solution is to buy the Travis Perkins site, parking and a train stop, Its down to you guys a Mary hasn’t got as clue as to what is happening in Cheadle Village.
